As a productivity specialist, your main role would not be just a system developer, but an agent of change who change the behaviour of the people within organization. To improve productivity of an organization, you must improve productivity of the people running the systems. And to make them more productive, you must change their behaviour. To change the behaviour, you must change their mindset first, that is why you will find dificulties because changing a mindset is like changing e person’s life. And i’ve seen many of productivity specialists fail due to this reason.
Before playing productivity specialist role, I have keep in my mind the obstacle of being challenging by the people of organization. Many skills required such as AIDDA (attention, interest, desire, decision, action), OSD (objective, specific, detail), probing technique, active listening, feature and benefit, and so on will help but not enough to protect you from confrontation with people. These people sometimes hate you so much, and in the worst case, they will do anything to kick you out, or sabotage your system, just like an enemy of your improvement program, but I tell you to stay cool and calm – why?
My wife previously was a supervisor in the factory I worked, first as a consultant, then a general manager of the factory. She was very upset with the improvement program I implemented, you have no idea to imagine how hate she did, but just after many benefits came up slowly, it then turned her to love me so much, and this is not a joke.
Many people in my client just react like my wife – before they see the benefit of the program you implemented. Do not lose your confident, keep focus on the goals of the program, keep move on persistently. By the time you have experienced, you will be more wise and flawless in running the program, but always remember that when your program successful, your enemy today would be your best friend tomorrow.
